Nobody buys an HVAC maintenance plan because they want two appointments. They buy one because of the call they don't want to make in January, when the house is cold, the schedule is full, and the thing that failed had been failing quietly since August. Our HVAC maintenance plan is $199 a year, it covers a spring check and a fall check, and you can book it on the site without phoning anyone.
JR Buchanan has been in the trade 27 years and holds NC license #37008. What he has watched for most of that time is systems dying earlier than they had to, from the kind of neglect that costs nothing to catch and a great deal to ignore. That is the whole argument for a plan, and it's the only one we will make. Call (704) 461-0252 or book the plan on our plans page.
What the $199 HVAC maintenance plan includes
One payment for the year. We put the spring cooling check and the fall heating check on the board ourselves, so it happens before the season you actually need the system rather than during it.
- A spring cooling check and a fall heating check. Two visits, scheduled by us.
- Priority scheduling. When the week fills up, plan customers go first.
- 10% off services. Applied to repair work for the year.
- No diagnostic fee. If something does break, you aren't paying for someone to come and look.
- Free estimates on replacement work.
What it isn't: a home warranty, and not a repair ticket. If a part has already failed, the plan doesn't replace it for free. We write a flat-rate quote, you approve it before anyone lifts a wrench, and the plan means you didn't pay a separate trip fee to find the problem in the first place.
The checklist we work from is ENERGY STAR's: thermostat, electrical connections, motors, condensate drain, coils, refrigerant level, blower airflow, and on a gas furnace the heat exchanger. ENERGY STAR puts dirt and neglect at the top of its list of causes of heating and cooling failure, and recommends exactly this split, cooling checked in spring and heating checked in fall.
HVAC maintenance plan cost in 2026
The national band is tight and easy to check. According to Angi puts HVAC maintenance overall at $175 to $350, yearly service agreements at $150 to $300, and a single AC tune-up at $60 to $200. It also notes that most pros charge a flat fee per service rather than by the hour, with a standalone inspection running $200 to $400.
| What you're buying | Typical 2026 cost | Ours |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly service agreement | $150 to $300 (Angi) | $199, two visits |
| One AC tune-up, no plan | $60 to $200 (Angi) | Call us |
| Standalone inspection | $200 to $400 (Angi) | No diagnostic fee on the plan |
So $199 sits inside the agreement range and covers two visits, when a single tune-up on its own can reach $200. The part people miss is the diagnostic fee: on a plan, the trip to find out what is wrong is already paid for. That is the line that most often decides whether a plan pays for itself in a given year.
What we check on each visit
Spring cooling check
Refrigerant charge against the outdoor temperature, amp draw on the compressor and the blower, temperature split across the coil, condensate drain cleared, coil condition, electrical connections tightened, capacitor tested against its rating. The capacitor matters more than its price suggests: it's a cheap part that reads low before it fails, which means a measurement in April can prevent a no-cooling call in July.
Fall heating check
On a gas furnace: flame sensor, igniter, burner condition, gas pressure, the heat exchanger, and the safety switches that shut the thing down when something is wrong. On a heat pump: the defrost cycle, the reversing valve, and whether backup heat is coming on when it should rather than all the time. Either way the system gets run before the weather makes it urgent. Our fall prep walkthrough covers what you can check yourself between visits.
What a plan visit actually turns up
A concrete example from this August, because the abstract version is unconvincing. A plan visit, the first of the year for that customer, $199, no repair written. What it found was a system running R-22.
That single detail changes everything about what the next few years look like. Under the EPA's phaseout, R-22 hasn't been produced or imported in this country since 2020, so anything going into that system now is recycled or reclaimed stock, priced accordingly. The EPA is equally clear that nobody is required to replace or convert an R-22 system, and we didn't suggest it. We recorded the readings, explained what the refrigerant meant, and charged the $199 the plan already covered.
That is what the visit is for. Not to find something to sell, but so the decision is yours to make on a Tuesday in August rather than ours to make for you on the coldest night of the year. There is more on how we weigh that call in our repair-or-replace guide.
When an HVAC maintenance plan is worth the money
Honestly, not always, and we would rather say so than sell you one you don't need.
It is worth it if your system is past its first decade, if you have gas heat, if the house has had airflow complaints, or if you would rather two appointments happened without you having to remember them. Anything with a burner earns an annual look on safety grounds alone.
It is worth less if your system was installed in the last couple of years and is still under a manufacturer warranty that requires documented maintenance you're already getting from the installer. Check that first. Two plans covering the same equipment is money for nothing.
It is the wrong purchase entirely if something is broken right now. Get that diagnosed and quoted, decide on the repair, and start a plan afterwards if it still makes sense. A plan isn't a way to get a discount on a repair you already need, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than after taking the $199.
How the plan runs around Gaston County
We cover Belmont, Gastonia, Mount Holly, Cramerton, Dallas and Hickory. Plan visits get scheduled by us, in the shoulder season, which is deliberate: October and April are when there's room in the week to do the job properly instead of squeezing it between emergencies. If you're just outside those towns, call and ask. If we can get to you in the window we promise, we will say so, and if we can't, we will say that instead.
Cooling-season pricing works the same way, and we publish that too, in our air conditioner repair cost guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an HVAC maintenance plan cost in Gaston County?
Ours is $199 a year for two visits, and you can book it online. For comparison, Angi puts yearly service agreements nationally at $150 to $300 and a single AC tune-up at $60 to $200, so two visits for $199 sits inside that band.
What does an HVAC maintenance plan include on each visit?
We work from ENERGY STAR's maintenance checklist: thermostat, electrical connections, motors, condensate drain, coils, refrigerant level, blower airflow, and the heat exchanger on a gas furnace. Spring is the cooling side, fall is the heating side, and you keep the readings either way.
Does an HVAC maintenance plan keep a manufacturer warranty valid?
Often it helps, because many manufacturers require documented annual maintenance and will ask for records on a warranty claim. Check your own paperwork rather than assuming, and if the installer already covers it under a warranty obligation, you may not need a second plan at all.
Is a maintenance plan worth it on a new system?
Less so in the first couple of years, especially if the installer is already doing warranty-required maintenance. It becomes worth more as the system ages and the parts that fail start reading badly before they fail outright.
What happens if you find something wrong on a plan visit?
You get told what it's, what it will cost as a flat-rate quote, and what happens if you leave it. Then you decide. There is no diagnostic fee on top, because the visit was already paid for, and there's no obligation to do the work.
Can I cancel or is it a contract?
It is a one-year arrangement, not a rolling contract with a cancellation penalty. Call us if your situation changes.
Do you serve Belmont, Gastonia and Hickory?
Yes, plus Cramerton, Dallas and Mount Holly. Call and ask if you're just outside those towns.
